Eli Lieb Young Love Review

Eli Lieb - Young Love (2013)

Review:

Young Love is an uplifting pop-rock song by American singer Eli Lieb, with a sweet, nostalgic music video to go with it.

The song itself, as the title suggests, is about a young love. It’s about a new, exciting romance where you’re all over each other and have moments that you want to last forever. The song itself is ambiguous in its lyrics and could be about any relationship, homosexual and heterosexual. This is intentional by Lieb, because the song is meant to be representative of all, and love is for everyone. The song is catchy and it does a solid job of capturing the excitement at the beginning of a relationship that makes you want to live life to the fullest with your partner.

The music video works really well with the song. In it Lieb has a male love interest as he himself is gay. Lieb and his partner are joined by a group of friends, and the video depicts them getting up to all the things that people in their early twenties get up to with their mates: partying, playing pool at bars, having bonfires and setting off fireworks, and swimming in pools at night. But amongst all this and all the people, there are intimate moments between Lieb and his partner: moments of eye contact, kissing under the light from the fireworks, getting matching tattoos. It’s all about having fun with friends, but also about being a team with your partner within that. It’s a very natural video and while there are a lot of music videos out there about young love, it is refreshing to see one based on a gay relationship and celebrating love as a whole.

Overall, you come away from listening to this song, or watching the music video, feeling positive, if not a little nostalgic. The beginnings of relationships are so exciting and that is successfully capture by Lieb.

Favourite Lyrics:

when I was young in love when you were everything

we'd stay up and drink through the night

laying on the roof I put my hands on you

you said our love will never die

Tone: Upbeat

Score: 8/10

Other observations:

  • I like how the video depicts him and his partner amongst friends. In those early stages of a relationship it can be all too easy for one to get caught up with their partner and slightly side-line their friends. Love should of course be for one’s partner, but also for friends.
